An alloy comprising chromium (2–9%), molybdenum (0.5–1.2%), nickel, carbon, manganese, silicon, phosphorus, and sulphur is used to make alloy steel plate flanges. The flanges perform exceptionally well under a range of pressures and temperatures thanks to their composition, which also gives them exceptional mechanical strength and resistance to corrosion. Mechanically, they offer elongation of about 20%, a minimum yield strength of 275 MPa, and tensile strength ranging from 485 to 620 MPa.
